Jefferson Nickels

Jefferson Nickels have been minted since 1938. Throughout the years they have seen only minor changes. From 1942-1945, a 56% Copper, 35% Silver, 9% Manganese composition was used. This was done to free up nickel which was a vital metal during the war.
There was little change until 2004 with the introduction of the Westward Journey series which ran from 2004-2006. This introduced four new reverse designs and two new obverse designs. The 2006 obverse design has been used since. Though being called 'nickels', the composition is primarily copper (75% copper, 25% nickels).
